MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines on Monday recorded 14,456 new COVID-19 cases, the Department of Health (DOH) said.
Based on the latest bulletin, the DOH said 10,203 (70%) of the additional cases occurred within the recent 14 days, from January 18 to January 31, 2022.
The regions that recorded the most cases in the recent two weeks are Region 11 (1,381 or 14%), NCR (1,053 or 10%) and Region 7 (973 or 10%), it added.
Of the total 3,560,202 cases confirmed in the country, 190,818 remain active.
Of the active cases, 8,239 are asymptomatic, 177,584 are mild, 3,126 are moderate, 1,540 are severe, and 329 are in critical condition.
The positivity rate was at 28.4 percent, based on test results from 52,013 people on January 29.
The DOH noted that all accredited testing laboratories were operational on January 29, 2022, however three laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS). The 3 labs contribute, on average, 0.5% of samples tested and 0.1% of positive individuals.
The DOH also reported 26,500 new recoveries, raising the total to 3,315,381.
COVID-19 related deaths climbed to 54,003 with 112 new fatalities.
Of the 112 deaths, 107 occurred in January 2022 (96%), 2 in November 2021 (2%), 2 in October 2021 (2%), and 1 in May 2021 (1%) due to late encoding of death information to COVIDKaya, the DOH said.
The agency also removed 24 duplicates from the total case count, including 11 recoveries; while 33 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
Meanwhile, data from the DOH showed that the occupancy rate for intensive care units nationwide was at 46%, and 38% in the National Capital Region (NCR).
The utilization rate for ventilators was at 25% across the country, and 26% in the NCR.
