MANILA, Philippines – A Filipina household worker is currently undergoing a quarantine process in Hong Kong after she was exposed to her employer who tested positive for the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV).
The Philippine Consulate in Hong Kong said the unidentified Filipina is the second Filipino worker to be placed under quarantine after another was exposed to the virus through her employers who traveled to Wuhan in Hubei province of China.
The Chinese city of Wuhan is the epicenter of the novel coronavirus outbreak.
“Just like the first case, the second Filipina domestic worker was quarantined because of contact with an employer who tested positive,” Philippine Consul General to Hong Kong Raly Tejada said in a statement.
Tejada said the Filipina is “healthy and asymptomatic” but was ordered to undergo a 14-day stay at a quarantine camp (QC) in compliance with Hong Kong’s protocols for all individuals who were traced to have close contact with infected people.
“No test will be done on her. A medical post at QC will monitor her temperature regularly,” he added.
The latest data from the consulate showed there are around 230,000 Filipinos in Hong Kong.
