After the Department of Health (DOH) declared a measles outbreak in the National Capital Region (NCR) last February 6, measles cases have continued to surge with 11,459 cases reported as of February 20 while death toll peaks at 189.
The World Health Organization (WHO) also lists the Philippines in the top 10 countries with the highest number of measles cases in the world, ranking third next to India and Ukraine based on their January 2019 report.
The health department continues to urge Filipinos to get vaccinated in their barangays and raise awareness on the benefits of vaccination for their health. They aim to vaccinate 12 to 14 million children.
They also partnered with the Pediatric Infectious Disease Society of the Philippines to launch their #Savethefuture campaign aiming to bring back the confidence of the public in getting vaccinated.
Senator Many Pacquiao also joined in the DOH’s own campaign #knockouttigdas regarding vaccination. — Aileen Cerrudo
