MANILA, Philippines — The construction of a new state-of-the-art building for the Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital has begun on its location in San Lazaro compound, Tayuman in Sta. Cruz, Manila.
The building measures 44,000 square meter and is just near the current location of the decade-old hospital building.
According to the hospital management, it is not true that the national maternity hospital is facing demolition. They just want to ensure the safety of the patients thus they have decided to erect a new building.
“Those reports are just hearsays. Fabella hospital will not be abolished, whether in June or in the future. Until now, Fabella is continuously operating and we are always here ready to serve all mothers,” said Dr. Antoinette Pacapac, media relations officer.
However, several health workers still doubt their future once the new building begins its operation.
“The one in DOH could be turned into a payward or extension of Fabella Hopsital. But the heritage building could also be considered and remain on its original location,” said Save Fabella Hospital Movement spokesperson Elvira Mendoza.
Dr. Pacapac, however, maintains that there is no truth behind rumors of possible retrenchment of hospital employees.
“No one will be laid off. In fact, we are still hiring more personnel for the opening of the new building. Our personnel are ready to serve,” guaranteed Dr. Pacapac.
