MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) has distributed total of 337 donated respirators to government and private hospitals, the agency confirmed in a statement issued on Friday (June 11).
Meanwhile, 63 respirators are now on standby and ready to be deployed to regions outside NCR+8 areas that are experiencing surges of COVID-19 cases.
The DOH said that it has received about 400 respirators from Singapore’s Temasek Foundation.
Out of this number, 30 units were sponsored by a private company associated with the tobacco industry.
However, given the provisions of the CSC-DOH Joint Memorandum Circular No. 2010-01 which prohibits the DOH from accepting donations from the tobacco industry, the said units were immediately delivered to 10 private hospitals identified by the private company for them to be used on COVID-19 patients, through the mediation of the DOH.
The DOH also thanked the Temasek Foundation for the donated respirators for COVID-19 patients in the country.
The agency also expressed gratitude to the Embassy of the Republic of Singapore for facilitating delivery of the said donations. More than 100 public and private hospitals in the Philippines received the respirators.
