MANILA, Philippines – The national government is giving priority to the scheduled World Health Organization (WHO) Solidarity trial for potential vaccines for coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
According to the Inter-Agency Task Force Resolution No. 68, recipients of the COVID-19 trial vaccines will come from barangays with the highest number of COVID-19 cases.
“Ang mga tatanggap ng bakuna para sa World Health Organization Solidarity Trial ay kukunin sa 5 hanggang 10 barangay na may pinakamataas na COVID-19 cases, [Those who will receive the vaccine provided under the World Health Organization Solidarity Trial will come from five to 10 barangays that have the highest number of COVID-19 cases],” said Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.
“Ang mga datos tungkol dito ay manggagaling sa [Data on this will be provided by the] DOH Epidemiological Bureau,” he added.
Meanwhile, trial zones will also be set up for independent clinical trials of various private vaccine companies to be able to have an equal and rational distribution as well as to prevent competition in terms of subject recruitment.
It is recommended, however, to have a memorandum of agreement (MOA) between the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to be witnessed by local government officials and the vaccination team for the conduct of the clinical trials.
As for the specific vaccine and dosage to be purchased for a particular area, it is to the decision of the Department of Health (DOH) on top of the program of vaccine deployment.
